Regional Electric Utility Lineworkers & Manufacturers to Focus on Safety, Power & People During Upcoming CARILEC Symposium

Castries, Saint Lucia, June 21, 2021: With a virtual comeback following a hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CARILEC’s 2021 Lineworkers’ and Manufacturers’ Symposium is set to be unveiled on June 22nd and 23rd, 2021.  This year’s symposium will be hosted virtually under the theme Safety. Power. People.  The Lineworkers’ and Manufacturers’ Symposium has been hailed as the leading regional forum for the converging of Lineworkers, their supervisors and other power restoration workers throughout the electric utility sector.  While this year’s conference will not feature the popular rodeo component, due to its face-to-face nature, the event agenda boasts a roster of regional and international line safety specialists, mechanical and electrical engineers and highly experienced Lineworkers!

As the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season gets underway, regional utility leaders are called upon to take heed to scientific predictions, which have cautioned that this season will be an above normal one. In light of these forecasts, the region is tasked with preparing for the event of considerable damage and destruction, following possible impact from tropical cyclones.  More specifically, electric utilities are tasked with ensuring that their Lineworker teams are ready to respond to possible power outages and damaged utility poles, following a hurricane.  The Lineworkers’ and Manufacturers’ Symposium aims to provide in-depth knowledge sharing on best safety practices, wood pole processing, and knots and rope slicing, among other critical topics.  It is CARILEC’s vision that such a forum significantly contributes to the preparation of Lineworkers, in anticipation of an active hurricane season, while simultaneously providing a virtual platform for networking with fellow colleagues and a display of camaraderie, which have both become synonymous with this prime event.

While commenting on the upcoming symposium, CARILEC’s Learning and Development Manager, Ms. Sophia Primus stated that this year’s virtual event posed an opportunity for Lineworkers to acquire new practices and techniques.  She further added that technology has presented a path for managing the impacts of COVID-19, through virtual forums such as that of this year’s Lineworkers’ & Manufacturers’ Symposium.

“The CARILEC Team has missed one year of this hallmark event; however, the time lost can be recovered during this year’s virtual symposium.  We encourage our Lineworkers to discover updated practices, procedures, and techniques in the world of line construction and maintenance, over the two (2) day period.  Technology has assisted us all in beating the odds of the pandemic, so we need to ensure that we make ample use of the opportunities presented by this event.”

CARILEC’s 2021 Lineworkers’ and Manufacturers’ Symposium is proudly sponsored by Jelco (Platinum Sponsor), Altec (Gold Sponsor) and Koppers (Gold Sponsor).  For further information on this event, visit https://www.carilec.org/event/lineworkers-manufacturers-symposium/.
