CARILEC carries out Capacity Building Workshop Series with SKELEC

The Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) in collaboration with The St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) jointly hosted a Capacity Building Workshop Series in St. Kitts during the month of October.

The training event was comprised of a series of three (3) inter-related workshops which sought to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes for higher levels of commitment, productivity and performance in the workplace of participants; most of whom were managers and key personnel of SKELEC, as the utility is currently undergoing organizational structure reform.

CARILEC’s Executive Director, Dr. Cletus Bertin who has extensive experience in Change Management served as the facilitator. Dr. Bertin holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems and Change Management from City University in London. The participants were awarded a certificate upon completion of each workshop from CARILEC, whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness of members by providing industry related services, creating regular networking, training and knowledge sharing opportunities; supporting mutual assistance programs and accelerating the Caribbean Region’s energy sector transition through innovation and advocacy.

The Capacity Building Workshop Series topics were as follows:

  1. Conflict Resolution, Effective Communication & Team
  2. Emotional Intelligence for Effective Leadership and;
  3. Management of Change & Innovation.

Prior to the commencement of the Capacity Building Workshop Series, pre-workshop assessments were carried out among participants via online surveys.   Dr. Bertin undertook this survey to ensure that maximum utility, relevance and value were derived by the participants from the teaching-learning engagement.

A total of forty three (43) persons were trained. CARILEC trains over fifteen hundred (1500) utility personnel and other private and public sector employees in a number of certified courses, webinars and workshops on a yearly basis.
