JPS Carrying Out Upgrading Works in St. Ann Commencing Sunday May 6

Media Release

May 4, 2018- JPS is reporting that it will be carrying out extensive works as part of its 2018 Voltage Standardization Programme (VSP), to upgrade the voltage supply of customers in St. Ann.  The first phase of this year’s upgrading exercise, will commence on Sunday May 6, from 7am to 7pm, during which time customers in sections of the town of Ocho Rios will be without power supply.

During this exercise, JPS teams will be correcting defective poles, upgrading transformers, changing equipment and carrying out general improvement of the primary distribution network. The work will result in customers experiencing fewer unplanned outages, fewer incidents of power going ‘on and off’ and improved power quality.

Areas to be impacted by the outage include: the section of Main Street from BNS to Tourwise, James Street, Evelyn Street, DaCosta Drive and all roads leading off.

JPS will continue upgrading works throughout the month of May and June, for Ocho Rios and surrounding communities.

Speaking on the development, JPS Chief Technology Officer Gary Barrow, said “This year, JPS is on an intense drive to deliver a higher level of reliability and power quality to our customers.  This focus on Ocho Rios and other sections of St. Ann, will upon completion, bring significant benefits to both residential and business customers in that area.”

JPS is investing US$2.64M in 2018, on this network improvement programme, while last year, the Company invested US$3.4M  on the programme, focussing on Kingston & St. Andrew (North), Trelawny and sections of St. Ann.
