NEW 190MW Power Plant Over 40% Complete

February 22, 2018- JPS is reporting that the 190 megawatt power plant presently under construction in Old Harbour Bay, is now over 40% complete.  This year, Phase 2 of the project will see mechanical and electrical works being carried out.  The first of three gas turbines for the plant arrived in the island last month and other works are proceeding according to schedule.

“We are very pleased with the progress on the new power station,” stated JPS President & CEO, Emanuel DaRosa. “When this new plant is commissioned, it will replace the Old Harbour  Power Plant, significantly contributing to the modernization of the JPS generation fleet.  This is an important element in improving our customer service and reliability, as well as increasing our fuel diversity ” he emphasized.

The new project has also helped create employment in the Old Harbour Bay community.  Two hundred and thirty nine local jobs have been created, with over 140 of these being held by persons from the surrounding communities.

The new power plant, which is being constructed at a cost of US$330M, is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2019.
