Castries, November 6, 2020 – St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited ( LUCELEC) is currently undertaking cabling works for the addition of battery storage to its 3MW solar farm at La Tourney, Vieux Fort. The works began in October and will go on until December this year. LUCELEC says the work will involve excavation of the road surfaces at La Tourney, Dierre Morne, La Resource, the St Jude’s Highway and Cantonement in Vieux-Fort.

LUCELEC 3MW Solar Farm

This is to allow LUCELEC to install underground cables that will connect a distribution substation at its solar farm in La Tourney to its substation in Cantonement. The substation at the solar farm will facilitate battery storage at the facility. This will stabilize the output from the solar farm LUCELEC officially opened in 2018.

Consistent with LUCELEC’s practice to build redundancy into its network, one cable will run from the solar farm in La Tourney through to Dierre Morne along the La Resource main road to the St Jude’s highway and across to the substation in Cantonement. The second line will run from the substation in Cantonement to the St Jude’s Highway, into Cedar Heights and to the solar farm in La Tourney.

Heavy equipment, machinery and personnel will be on these routes daily. Motorists and pedestrians using these routes are asked to proceed with caution in the vicinity of the works.

LUCELEC deeply regrets any inconvenience which the cabling and associated road works may cause and thanks the public for their patience and understanding.
