ABOUT THIS EVENT
In April 2023, the 110th International Labour Conference (ILC) declared that “a safe and healthy working environment”, be included as part of the fundamental principles and rights at work. This landmark decision has placed much needed focus on the importance of health and safety in the workplace, particularly in light of the recent global pandemic. In addition, with the workplace increasingly becoming a fast-paced environment given the advent of remote work and artificial intelligence (AI); health and safety mechanisms and guidelines need to be adaptive and future-focused in order to ensure the well-being of workers.
While these developments present challenges to employers and employees in relation to health and safety, they can also offer solutions if managed correctly. For example, advancements in AI and machine learning are helping safety professionals go beyond tracking incidents after they happen. More specifically, the use of predictive analytics can reduce incidents and operational overhead, thereby protecting employees and saving time and money.
Also, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to highlight the importance of mental health in overall employee wellbeing. In recent years, there has been increased emphasis on providing support for employees’ mental health. Many organizations have responded by using various strategies, some of which include company-sponsored counseling services, increased social interaction for remote employees, and more comprehensive training to reduce workplace harassment.
Against this backdrop of broadening and strengthening the scope of workplace health and safety, CARILEC presents this year’s Occupational Health and Safety Symposium with an Annual General Meeting (AGM), under the theme “Building a World Class Safety System”. This year’s symposium will feature a brief opening ceremony, expert presentations by health and safety specialists, extensive networking opportunities, and workshop style forums. Register now to be part of this symposium and develop the skills and knowledge to bolster your organization’s health and safety processes.
