On April 7th, 2021, a small handing over ceremony comprising of was held at the Renal Unit of the Owen King European Union (OKEU) Hospital in Castries, St. Lucia. CARILEC, represented by Ms. Karen Piper, Communications and Disaster Management Assistant Manager formally presented a donation of a book storage unit in collaboration with the Lions Club of Castries, St. Lucia, represented by the club’s President Mr. Christopher Emmanuel. The donation was received by Ms. Lillieth Daniel, Ward Manager of the Renal Unit.
The book storage unit will facilitate the display of several books ranging various forms of literary works including fiction, science, self-help, education, and history. This kind gesture by the Lions Club of Castries was made in an effort keep patients occupied while they await their time slot to receive their dialysis treatment.
When approached by the Lions Club of Castries, to consider donating to the health facility’s renal unit, CARILEC jumped at the opportunity to assist in this capacity. Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Emmanuel expressed his gratitude to CARILEC for their assistance in making this vision a reality. “We are pleased to partner with CARILEC on this small but impactful gesture. The Lions Club is confident that the patients of the Renal Unit will make full use of the wide range of books available for their reading pleasure as they undergo their dialysis treatment”.
CARILEC’s Communications and Disaster Management Assistant Manager also relayed CARILEC’s commitment assisting in the health sector and other public sectors, geared towards improving the lives of the St. Lucian people. “CARILEC remains committed towards assisting where possible to contribute to the betterment of the lives of all St. Lucians. We greatly value this collaboration with the Lions Club of Castries as part of our corporate social responsibility mandate.”
