Saint Lucia 's Prime Minister, Hon. Kenny D. Anthony has lauded the outstanding contribution of CARILEC pioneers, Bernard Theobalds and Joel Huggins to the development of the electricity sector in their home countries as well as in the wider Caribbean .

The Prime Minister was one of several speakers at an Appreciation Night who acknowledged the pivotal roles played by the two former Managing Directors in the development of St. Lucia Electricity Services Ltd, (LUCELEC) and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Electricity Company (VINLEC) respectively. Both stalwarts have recently retired after giving more than 40 years service to the industry.

Prime Minister Anthony expressed his deepest appreciation for the sterling support which he received from Mr. Theobalds. “Whenever I have called on him for advice, he has never failed me…he has given me his soul. His leadership of LUCELEC has been exemplary” said Dr. Anthony.

Chairman of CARILEC Lyn Young and Executive Director Victor Poyotte also acknowledged the support of the two pioneers. Chairman Young noted that both retirees gave selfless service to CARILEC, taking it from a mere project to an effective, financially self-sufficient corporation.

Both Mr. Theobalds and Mr. Huggins attributed any success they may have achieved, to the support that they received from their managers and staff.

Chairman Lyn Young presented Tokens of Appreciation to the two retirees, on behalf of the Board of Directors and the general membership of CARILEC.

The Appreciation Night was timed to coincide with the 56th Meeting of the Board of Directors which was held in Saint Lucia on 6 February 2004.
