FREEPORT POWER UNVEILS NEW PLANT, CORPORATE IMAGE
|
On June 8th 2001, Freeport Power Company
officially became the Grand Bahama Power Company, complete with a new corporate image and a newly-installed 13.5 MW Mitsubishi slow-speed
diesel generating unit. |

Freeport Power Co is now the Grand Bahama Power Company
|
For many years Freeport Power Company had been dedicated to supplying electricity to the city of Freeport and bulk power
to West Grand Bahama. In 1993, through an agreement with the government and Grand Bahama Port Authority, Freeport Power was permitted to provide electricity
to the whole of Grand Bahama Island. More than 40 miles of power lines were constructed to supply the east end of Grand Bahama.
New development and growth in tourism and industry gave rise to greater electricity demand and in January 1998 a 13.5 MW slow speed diesel generating Unit was installed. Continued growth has now led to
the implementation of a second such unit.
Coincident with this, a new name and corporate image has been created for the company. The new company logo represents a headpiece of a traditional Bahamian Junkanoo costume and is also symbolic
of energy radiating from a source. The colors are of the Bahamas national flag.
At the ceremony to unveil the new corporate brand and to commission the new plant, President and CEO Thomas E Dorsey noted that the new name - Grand Bahama Power Company - reflected the companys
obligation and commitment to provide quality service to all customers throughout Grand Bahama.
