Blackout Shrouds Belize
Except for Caye Caulker and Punta Gorda the country of Belize experienced an electrical blackout from 2:41 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. today. The Belize blackout took place approximately two weeks after the August 14th blackout in the US. At 4:11, Thursday afternoon the entire northeast of the States lost power and major metropolitan areas like New York City and Detroit screeched to a silent standstill. The States' blackout was caused by overloaded generators breaking down and likewise the Belize blackout was caused by generation problems in Mexico.Full details . BEL web site

CUC Responds to Government Statements Regarding CUC's 3% Rate Increase
Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. ("CUC" or "the Company") submitted its 2003 Final Return to the Cayman Islands Government ("Government") in July 2003 confirming that it is entitled to a 3% rate increase effective August 1, 2003 pursuant to its Licence with Government. This return was filed after CUC's independent auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, provided written confirmation that the rate increase was computed in accordance with the terms of the Licence. › Full details . LUCELEC explains its Renewable Energy Efforts
The island's lone electricity company (LUCELEC) is refuting allegations that it has done little to support the move to introduce renewable, alternative or green energy to St. Lucia. The company states that for years it has, been exploring the introduction of various forms of alternative energy, including supporting and undertaking its own research, as well as entertaining proposals from foreign interests.
