In 2000 61% of all registrations for CARILEC
conferences were made online or via e-mail, down 1% from the 62% figure recorded
in 1999. This slowdown reflects lower rates of online registration for the
CEOs symposium and the supply chain management (purchasing) conference (see
chart below).
Analysis of the data shows that the lower rate
of online registrations for these conferences is a direct result of less use
of the internet for registration by member utility participants: in 1999,
39% of utility CEOs registered online for the CEOs symposium, but in 2000,
the percentage had fallen to 29%. Similarly, 52% of utility supply chain managers
registered on the internet in 1999, but this year only 29% did.
On the other hand, associate member use has
increased over last year. In this instance, and for whatever reason, CARILEC's
member utilities are following the opposite of the universal trend of increasing
use of the internet for business.
