CARILEC, MEMBERS TO DISCUSS ORGANISATION'S STRATEGIC DIRECTION

The CARILEC secretariat will on Friday March 2 convene a strategic planning workshop in St Lucia, which will focus on brainstorming the way forward for the organisation.

Three such strategic planning sessions had been originally scheduled, but the first two were cancelled due to an insufficient number of registrations being received by the cut-off deadline.

CARILEC's directors had agreed in December on a series of points which they recommended should guide the organisation's development. These points will constitute the substantive issues to be discussed at the workshop which will be a forum for exploring ways to:

  • consolidate and improve the marketing of existing services
  • develop training programmes which involve more focus on "structured education" leading to certification of employees at varying levels in the utilities as opposed to simply offering "training courses"
  • translate the above into medium term projections which did not show any losses in any of the years covered by the projections

It is expected that the workshop will prepare a draft plan of action for presentation to the Annual General Meeting of CARILEC's membership in Grenada on 20 June 2000.

Dr Suruj Rambachan of the University of the West Indies' Institute of Business (IOB) will facilitate the business of the workshop and will also act as the rapporteur.

CARILEC members and associates interested in attending should email admin@carilec.org or call (758) 452 0140 for further information.
