CARILEC SIGNS TRAINING AGREEMENT WITH IP3

CARILEC has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Institute for Public-Private Partnerships (IP3) to facilitate the attendance of its members at training workshops organized by this US-based agency. IP3 is an international training and technical assistance firm which focuses on fostering public-private partnership opportunities in the energy and environmental (water/waste water and solid waste), technology and social sectors, with special emphasis on the legal financial, technical and regulatory aspects of successful partnership arrangements. Since its formation in 1994, it has trained over 7000 officials from the private and public sectors of 175 countries and has conducted scores of technical assistance assignments worldwide.

These workshops range in duration from two to three weeks and consist of classroom sessions, computer laboratories, professional site visits, study tours, simulation exercises and action planning sessions. One of the unique features of these workshops is that they introduce participants to various information technology uses through the provision of notebook computers, related instruction, and online technology labs. Participants also receive credits in the form of Continuing Education Units (CEU) based on the number of hours of training in each workshop. The presenters are specialists in their fields and bring a wealth of experience to bear on the topics they present.

CARILEC’s objectives in forging this partnership with IP3 are as follows:

  • To strengthen its reputation as a regional leader in providing relevant and cutting-edge training and support for its members and the regional electricity sector in general.
  • To provide CARILEC's members and other regional electric utilities with exceptional training and experience on Public-Private Partnerships not only in the energy sector but also on Information technology and e-governance.

CARILEC members can look forward to receiving notices about these training workshops from our training department commencing with a notice on the workshop “Energy and Power Sector Procurements, Contract Agreements and Compliance/ Monitoring Strategies for Private Sector Participation (PSP) and P3 (Public-Private Partnerships) Projects,” July 30 - August 10th, 2001 in Washington DC.
