2004 Energy Policy Conference

The Energy Policy conference was held at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Saint Lucia from April 5 th – 6 th 2004 under the theme “Toward an Integrated Energy Policy: Facing Challenges and Securing Commitment.

The conference was opened with remarks from Saint Lucia 's Minister for Physical Development, Environment and Housing, Honourable Fergusson John.

Four (4) other regional government Ministers with responsibility for Energy attended the conference, namely Hon. Reginald Austrie ( Dominica ), Hon. Julian Francis (St. Vincent), Hon. Anthony Wood ( Barbados ) and Hon. Halva Hendrickson (St. Kitts).

Minister Austrie joined four other delegates in making presentations on their respective National Energy Policies. The policies were for Jamaica , St. Vincent , Grenada , Dominica and Saint Lucia .

The conference also featured two discussion sessions under the themes, Factors Impacting on Energy Policies In The Caribbean and Investment in Energy Projects. For the former, delegates were split into focus groups with each group making a presentation on their issues during a plenary session.

One of the main recommendations coming out of the conference was the need for a forum (at the CARICOM level) for Energy Ministers.
